There goes a fighter...

Finally after 5 years, i am able to stay at home longer than two months. And i come to realize lots of things, some of them are pretty big, enough to change my perspective, and possibly my life plan. And one of the most important among them, Malaysian hospital. So yeah, shoot.

I did my elective (o&g and emergency) at this hospital, which shall remained unnamed, and it was..... not a nice experience. But it was very helpful, it gave me the exposure i need, it's just the shock was bombastic. I'm being whiny here, as always, but mind you people, my very first time being in hospital was in KAUH (King Abdullah University Hospital), and i spent most of the last 2 years of my life there so, yes, i was shocked after visiting that hospital. Things worth mentioning:

1. O&G department was depressing, the doctors there really know how to scold. Asking things also got scolded. I love studying o&g, so naturally i'd love to know how it's like in real world, and surveying my work prospect. It was horrible, and awful, to work under such environment. Half of my determination was drained..

2. Malaysia is an endemic country omg! pulmonary TB is so common here, and other infectious diseases such as dengue, lepto-something, meliodoisis (not sure), malaria..even HIV! I guess once i start working i'll be wearing face mask non-stop, being germ-phobic.. might go blue due to lack of o2 haha

3. The lingo..the abbreviation, they change everything..no more cbc, lft, kft, u/a, u/e. And they use giddiness a lot, which is weird, i don't know why we never use it in JUST. The way malaysian use it, it's so common, i thought it means dizziness, but i was wrong. Someone explained it to me, but i forgot already what it means. But really, giddiness as chief complaint? sounds so not right to my JUSTized ear.

4. The shock from seeing the hospital itself...@__@. So rundown, and not organized. Ye la, hospital tua, need to walk a lot from building to building.

5. ECG paper..they use this very long strip of paper, all the 12 leads are printed horizontally, so it's very long, and troublesome. In the ward, they cut it lead by lead and paste it on the history paper. Kinda funny.

6. No automated bed, shame. i bet they know how much i love playing that.

7. Emergency department was nicer than o&g, a lot. and it's nice, in a way that patients come and go, no follow up haha. but also, shame, it's very much like family medicine, plus adrenaline. one needs to know everything in the textbook, or it'll cost the patient's life. so yeah, i cannot like it, being a medical student with knowledge shallower than lopak air atas highway.

8. I met a houseman, and she's in anest dept! I never know this, but apparently anest dept also takes houseman now. It's either one, anest or emergency. But she said it's not her choice, and one can't choose which one they want. Oh please i really really really really really really really want to be in anest, and the don't-have-to-do-emergency is golden! I hope i get to be posted in anest, amin. (too early anyway, got a year before graduation)

Anyways. It's an eye-opening experience, and i did learn a lot and i know there are so much to do to be a good doctor..So first step, pass the final year. Study well. The rest, as i always say, worry later la.

Ps: Living things is quite nice, after re-listening. But i think it's due to my soft spot for LP. My fav, rap in until it breaks. Sigh, i bet they'll never measure up to their classics again..or maybe i just feel those classics are great because i listened to them during my "prime" age.
