Now they really ask for it, for transparency of scholarship-giving, why some who score more As don't get it. And many of them are non-Bumi.
First of all, i don't blame them. I've seen this case, my friend who supposed to get the scholarship but she didn't even get the interview call. She scored 11As, her mother is a secondary teacher, his father was bedridden since she's in f2, and she had to drop from an elit boarding school in order to take care of his father. She's the eldest, she has to cook everyday, and she suffered serious emotional problems because her new friend at the daily school idled her, calling her names, (all because they just don't like somebody who study hard in class, acting nerd and from boarding school, but they just don't put their foot in her shoes. How can she study at home when her father keep calling her to do this and that for almost every minutes!), and also, because her father undertreated her. She speaks English very fluent, macam Cheryl Samad, senang cakap, she fulfilled all the criteria, I seriously admire her spirit, because if it's me in her place, i would go crazy in f4, and won't be able to write this thing.
Ok, this is not her story, but worth mentioning. Just wanna open some eyes, how unfair the scholarship-giving thingy. By the way, that friend of mine finally got the scholarship (with some help of mine, but hey, the scholarship worth her!=P) and then we lost contact.
So now, the government limits the subject should be taken in SPM into 10 only, which ends the era of 20-bloody A and all. Though i think they are getting a little too much, they should make it 12, have some gut for SMKA students. Oh, i know. Because they want to save their children's reputation at elit schools. If they set the upper limit at 12, then all the SMKAs will fill the nation's top school, and that's the least they want to see. (Sorry, just can't help speculating at our government. We are Bolehland)
Still, i can't help but agree with this action. The same reason, why taking Science when you already take the big 3 (BioChemPhys)? Do this kind of people like exams very much or do they just have so much money and don't know where to spend it so they spend it at paying the examination fee. I see nothing at this kind of people but greed of A. But i don't oppose those who add like, Art or Literature or Account into their science-streamed base papers, because i think they just want to challenge themselves. I just hate the redundant.Dandelion-head!
Ok, now they solved it, in only one aspect. When they set this rule, i can assure you, the amount of those who will score 10 1As will boom massively. So, the demand still outnumber the place of scholarship. So how will they solve then? Interview, then the result will still be the same. Some get some don't. And the cycle goes again.
And here, i think some of the solutions (so please, hire me as your part-time thinker, i need money to pay Mara!)
1. Display the MARKS of the subjects in SPM results, not only grade. Ada bran? An add-math analyst (i dunno what he works as actually, he is one of those who analyse and set the passing grade of Add-math, and he told me, the highest mark the examiner board set for passing grade is only 20, and i'm regret i don't ask about 1A, because if 1A is set at 70, then what differs those who got 70 and 100? they both get 1A.(ok, sapa dapat 100 ada majlis makan-makan, but then, it's still unfair!)). Then, create the weight at every critical subjects that are needed for specific fields that will be sponsored. Eg : In medicine, the very necessary subjects are Bio, Chem, and Physics. Let say the weight of these subjects are 5. So, those who want to apply for this field, multiply their marks in corresponding subjects with the weights, and those who meet the requirement can apply. And different fields like Engineering should of course by nature have different weight in different subjects. This will actually decrease the number of applicants itself.
The problem is: Their crony are of course will be rejected from the beginning.
2. Display online the list of scholarship recipient, with their backgrounds, so people won't complaint if the rightful candidates get their right. People are not grumpy, they just want their rights.
3. If you (crony) really want the scholarship because you don't have money to send your children overseas and yet your children just don't reach the requirement, then stop working at government. Government are for public people. Work at PNB,Telekom,Army,Bank Negara or whatever, they provide scholarships for their worker's children, with, obviously, lower requirement. No one complaint about this, because it's their right. But i know your problem, you just can't work there because no one want to hire you. Loser.
4. Diminish the scholarship itself. Senang keje. pastu sapa-sapa rasa nak belajar overseas tapi x cukup duit, pegi ngorat businessmen, taburla janji2 korang bakal balik untuk jadi bini diorang, pastu suruh diorang sponsor.
By the way, overall, of course, nobody can please everybody. Corruption happens everywhere.People will keep complaining, no matter what. Like, one of my chinese friend, a very bright student, 11 1As,headboy,national-level chess player, and many more (aku ingat 2 ni je), he got the JPA, but was bound to do medicine in India. He complained to me, why a malay girl who only scored 10 As, and never reach national level in anything, and can't even speak English fluently, was sent to do Medicine in UK. I couldn't think when he said that to me except agreed that that girl be somebody's daughter. And of course, corruption also happens in Chinese.
Because, in Asean scholarship's interview, the last question they asked my friend was, is your father MCA's member? He answered nope and he didn't get the scholarship. What a room of speculations can be made...husnozhon sudah
But, for the time being, i still think that the scholarship-giving is still ok, not too corrupt. You score high, and you got it. Trust me. Like my friends here, they are all high-achievers, and no one should argue why they got sponsored. they are just right.
All in all, i need to study for my finals. This entry is entirely to speak my mind OUT of medicine thingy, my head is getting smoky a-WHOLE-lot nowadays.
